FORJ Members Honored by HRC

FORJ

Each year the Newton Human Rights Commission (HRC) awards a Human Rights Award to those who have improved the quality of life in Newton by promoting greater understanding or by working to reduce discrimination. This year’s Human Rights Award celebrates two efforts championed by FORJ, the Indigenous People’s Day Newton Committee and Renande Loayza, who organized Newton’s first Juneteenth Celebration. This recognition is a testament to the idea that a “small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” Please join us in celebrating:

  1. Renande, for visioning and leading the effort to establish Newton’s first-ever Juneteenth Celebration, and

  2. Darlene, Chali, Kerry, and Emily for valiant resilience and organizing our first-ever Newton Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration.

The virtual Human Rights Awards is on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 p.m. More details on the event can be found here
